Una nota publicada el 19 de agosto por Mark Feinsand, en el site oficial de los New York Yankees, da como muy cercana la posibilidad que Rubén Rivera regrese a la organización neoyorquina.

Return of Ruben? Brian Cashman is close to signing former Yankee Ruben Rivera to a Minor League contract, giving the team another outfielder to consider when rosters expand on Sept. 1.

Rivera, who is a cousin of Mariano Rivera, was released by the Yankees in the spring of 2002 after he swiped a glove from Derek Jeter's locker and sold it. Rivera played with the Yankees in 1995-96, but has played with four other teams since then.

"It was a few years ago, and everybody deserves a second chance," Mariano Rivera said. "If it happens, I will support him. ... I think it's an opportunity that he will definitely appreciate, if it happens."

The center fielder played in the Mexican League this season, but his contract there has expired.
